How to send large video files

Email cannot carry a proper review cut. VuTransfer lets you upload the original in the browser and send a download link—without crushing the file to fit a 25MB inbox.

1. Keep the original file

A ProRes, DNx, or high-bitrate H.264 export is often hundreds of megabytes or several gigabytes. Compressing it to sneak under email attachment limits usually means the client reviews the wrong image. Send the version they need to approve.

2. Create an account and a named transfer

Sign in and start a transfer named after the project and version (“Brand film v3 review,” not “video”). That keeps client threads readable when you send more than one cut.

3. Upload in the browser

Add the file to the transfer and wait for progress to finish. VuTransfer accepts files up to 50GB each and automatically uses chunked uploads for files over 5GB. A stable connection helps; leave the tab open until the upload completes.

4. Set access rules

  • Expire the link when the review window closes.
  • On Ultimate, add a password for unreleased work.
  • Share the link only with people who should download the cut.

5. Share the link and clean up

Paste the download link into email or your project tool. Ask the recipient to confirm they have the file. When the job is done, let the transfer expire so old masters are not sitting on an open URL. For a broader security checklist, read how to send files securely.

Storage for video-heavy work

Free covers 2GB. Pro is 500GB. Ultimate is 1TB with branding, comments, download history, and password protection. See pricing if you regularly send files to clients that will not fit in email.
